National 1 League Officially Launches for 2026-27

Introducing National 1 League: The top team-based competition in US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer

The new national youth soccer competition previously known as NewComp now has an official name, logo, and identity: the National 1 League (N1). Launching in the 2026-27 season, N1 is the result of US Club Soccer's National Premier Leagues and US Youth Soccer's National League coming together under one unified, team-based platform, integrated with the ECNL.

National 1 League unifies US Club Soccer's NPL and US Youth Soccer's National League into one team-based competition.

For NCSL, this is a defining moment. NCSL (in collaboration with VPSL)  has been named the operator of Mid-Atlantic District 2, placing our league at the center of the new national pathway for clubs in Virginia, with open doors to clubs in DC, Maryland, and West Virginia who want to compete on this stage.

What N1 Means for Clubs

National 1 is the top team-based competition in US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer. The inaugural season will culminate at the ECNL Conference League Playoffs and Finals in summer 2027, where N1 district qualifiers compete for national championships.

The structure is built around eight conferences aligned with planned U.S. Soccer talent ID models, giving players competing in N1 greater visibility to U.S. Soccer scouts and college coaches than ever before. National 1 League is open to clubs regardless of their current affiliation — teams currently playing in USYS National League, NPL, or other competitive leagues are all welcome to apply. Participating teams will register and card through US Club Soccer via GotSport using an N1-branded pass card.

Why This Matters for Mid-Atlantic Clubs

For too long, ambitious clubs in this region have had to choose between fractured league options, navigate overlapping affiliations, and absorb travel costs that stretched families thin. N1 changes that equation:

  • A clearer, unified pathway from local competition to national-level play
  • Reduced travel through a district-based conference structure
  • Postseason competition culminating at the ECNL Conference League Playoffs and Finals
  • A single, transparent competitive structure backed by U.S. Soccer's Pathway Strategy

NCSL's role as District 2 operator means Mid-Atlantic clubs have a trusted, established league administering their entry point to national competition, with the operational experience to get it right from day one.
