STAR Training Scheduled
Required for New STARS and Many Returning STARs

Updated Friday, December 1, 2006.

Register early as these classes have a limited number of seats.

Here is a current list of classes available for new and returning STARS.  Instruction and certification is managed by the State Referee Programs of Maryland and DC/Virginia.  Please visit their websites at www.vadcsoccerref.com and www.marylandsoccer.com/referees/ for details and registration information, and for the most up-to-date lists of classes available.

In general, most clinics for returning STARs are offered in December and January; clinics for New STARs are offered in February, March, and August.  We try to schedule classes in addition to these months, when needed and if instructors are available.

1.  Returning STARs recently certified:  For Referees (USSF Grade 8), Recreational Referees (USSF Grade 9) and Assistant Referees (USSF Grade 12) who completed a certification class in August 2006 or September 2006 and already have a 2007 badge: No training is required prior to the Spring 2007 season.  You will need to recertify after the Fall 2007 season.

2.  New STARs: Most new STARs who have not previously attended a certification class will attend an Assistant Referee (USSF Grade 12) class.  You also have the option of attending a Referee (USSF Grade 8) or Recreational Referee (USSF Grade 9) class.  Dates for Grade 9 and Grade 8 classes can be found on the State Referee Program websites.

Click here for the list of New Assistant Referee (USSF Grade 12) classes for new STARs.

3.  Other returning STARs:  For Referees (USSF Grade 8), Recreational Referees (USSF Grade 9) and Assistant Referees (USSF Grade 12) who completed a certification class prior to July 2006:  You must attend training and successfully complete a written test before the spring 2007 season if you want to participate in the STAR program.  You have several choices:

- Attend an Upgrade Clinic (usually 9 hours)
- Attend a Recertification Clinic (usually 5-7 hours)
